How To Use The Meta Description For SEO

When it comes to Meta Description, it is fair to say that Google does NOT use this as a ranking factor...at least directly.

However, this does not mean that you should not use a quality description to increase your search engine rankings. In fact, a quality Meta Description is vital to your SERP(Search Engine Ranking Position).

Why is this? The reason is because of what Google DOES use to determine your site's ranking. It DOES use popularity, your click through rate.

The traffic that flows to your site helps Google determine how important your site is. Now, what helps you get more traffic? Let me illustrate it this way, which of the following two descriptions is more likely to get a click from you?:

1/ New Cars For Sale

2/ New Cars, Interest Free Finance, Full 5 Year Warranty

If you have any common sense, the second description will appeal. Not only does it say what you do, it also gives you a reason why you should click there.

Now, when it comes to the second description, Google couldn't care less about the blurb. However, the fact that you will click on the second description, as opposed to the first, shows Google that your site is more important, and, therefore, should rank higher.

So, how can you use this information? When you write a Meta Description, use content that will catch the eye of the audience, something that will motivate them to click on your link.

Remember the Questions: What, Where, Why, How and When.

What do you do? Where can they learn more? Why should they click on your link? How does this benefit them? When will this offer help them?

The Meta Description is a vital tool for SEO....if you think a little laterally. Use it wisely!
