The Sydney Irlen Dyslexia Centre specialises in assessing children and adults who have difficulties in the following areas:
- Reading
- Comprehension
- Spelling
- Dyslexia
- Letter / Word / Number Reversals
- Concentration
- Behaviour Issues
- Light Sensitivity
- Headaches / Migraines
- Eye Strain
- Fatigue
- Depth Perception Difficulties
Having difficulties in any of the above can be caused by an underlying visual processing problem called Irlen Syndrome / Scotopic Sensitivity. This is a neurological brain based issue associated with how information travels from the eyes through to the back of the brain.
Assessments for visual processing difficulties can only be carried out by qualified Irlen Syndrome Clinicians. Irlen Syndrome / Scotopic Sensitivity is not a problem associated with the eyes and cannot be assessed by optometrists or eye specialists.
An initial assessment at the Irlen Dyslexia Centre will determine whether underlying visual processing problems are affecting how a person reads, comprehends, spells and performs at school and in the workplace.
If Irlen Syndrome / Scotopic Sensitivity is present Irlen Spectral Filter Lenses may be recommended. The second assessment will determine the precise Irlen Spectral Filter Tint required to be worn as lenses. If an optometric prescription is also needed this can be included with the Irlen Spectral Filter Tint.
